A refrac\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 respons\u00e1vel por este fen\u00f3meno. Antes de atingir a seta, a luz vai do ar, atrav\u00e9s do vidro, atrav\u00e9s da \u00e1gua, atrav\u00e9s da parte de tr\u00e1s do vidro, e de volta atrav\u00e9s do ar. A luz refracta-se sempre que se desloca de um meio ou material para outro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O facto de a luz se dobrar ao passar por v\u00e1rios materiais n\u00e3o explica porque \u00e9 que a seta se inverte. Considere o copo de \u00e1gua como uma lupa para melhor compreender isto. A luz curva-se para o centro quando passa atrav\u00e9s de uma lupa. O ponto focal \u00e9 onde toda a luz se junta, mas para al\u00e9m dela, a imagem parece inverter-se porque os raios de luz que estavam dobrados passam uns pelos outros, e a luz que estava do lado direito est\u00e1 agora do lado esquerdo, e a luz que estava do lado esquerdo est\u00e1 agora do lado direito, fazendo com que a seta pare\u00e7a invertida. A luz pode ser vista a espalhar-se a partir da ponta da seta em linhas rectas conhecidas como raios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No entanto, em vez de se espalhar em linhas rectas quando adicionamos o nosso copo de \u00e1gua, a luz muda de direc\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 medida que entra e sai do copo de \u00e1gua.
